Arabic Soup

Today I had Arabic class in the morning with Jacqui and Arielle. In the afternoon, we took a trip with our other classmates to Umm Al-FaHm, an Arab city that we visited last week. We visited a community center and practiced our Arabic with some young students (mostly in their teens or twenties, and mostly young women) who were learning Hebrew. Their Hebrew teacher was interesting; she used to be Jewish but had converted to Islam a long time ago.

Then, we went to an art school and chatted with some female students there. I spoke with a very cool lady named Kefah (the "H" at the end is pronounced like the hissing sound you can produce from breathing on a window pane; her name means "fight" or "struggle"). She is an artist and also works in a school. She is 31 and isn't married, which is unusual for an Arab woman her age in this region. She said she wants to do a lot of things before getting married.

Kefah wanted to practice her English so she spoke in that language, and I spoke in Arabic. I hope I can meet her again to practice.

A break in the rain.

Some artwork at the art school.

At the community center: "There is no god but God."

Another piece of work at the art school.

The artist lady Kefah whom I practiced Arabic and English with. I loved her fashion sense; super colorful.
