Tzipori & Sfat

Today we took a class field trip with our Professor Israel Neeman to Tzipori and Sfat. Tzipori is an ancient Jewish/Roman site that isn't mentioned too much in the Torah or other Hebrew texts. After the fall of the second temple, Tzipori actually surrendered to the Romans and survived the rebellion of 67-70AD. Many Jews went there.

We also went to Sfat, a city that is holy for religious Jews (the other 3 holy cities are Jerusalem, Hebron, and Tiberias). We learned a little bit about Kabbalah (Jewish mysticism) and visited an artist friend of Professor Neeman's, who explained to us the significance of some Hebrew letters and their corresponding numbers, as well as the meaning of the four elements (earth, air, fire, water) in Kabbalistic philosophy. It was really trippy and groovy.
